Chairman of the Parliamentary Inquiry
Commission on waste cycle
Dr Alessandro Bratti is graduated with honors in
Agricultural Sciences at the University of Bologna. He holds a PhD in
Agricultural Entomology and carried out research activity in Italy and abroad.
Since 2001 he has been a Researcher at the University of Ferrara, where he has
been teaching "Sustainable development and environmental accounting".
He was appointed Councilor of Ferrara twice
(Sport, Environment and Decentralization in 94 and Environment and Mobility
from 99 till 2006). During this period, Ferrara was the only city in Italy that
obtained the "Sustainable Cities" award by the European Commission.
In 1999 he was one of the founders of the Italian Local Agenda 21 Council. In
February 2003, he became President, participating in many initiatives,
including, in 2002, the World Summit in Johannesburg.
From April 2008, he has been a Member of Italian Parliament (Deputy) for
Partito Democratico (Democratic Party) and was member of many national and
international working groups and committees. From May 2010 to April 2013 he was
national responsible for waste management policies in the Democratic Party, as
well as PD's leader in the parliamentary Commission on environmental crimes.
Dr Bratti is also the author of several books on
sustainability issues.
He is currently a member of the Commission VIII
on Environment of the Chamber of Deputies. He is the regional responsible of
Environment and Energy in the Democratic Party of Emilia-Romagna.
On 12 July 2014 he was elected President of "Ecologisti Democratici”
(Democratic Ecologists), a political association of Democratic Party.
Since 9 September 2014 he has been the chairman of the Parliamentarty
Commission of Inquiry on illegal activities related to the waste cycle.
