IdentiPlast 2015 on plastics waste recycling & recovery
Posted on May, 04 2014
About 230 participants and more
than 40 high-level
speakers
made this year’s edition once again the number one event in Europe
dealing with
the recycling and recovery of plastics waste. For two days (29-30
April),
representatives from the whole plastics value chain, from local
authorities and
municipalities, high-ranking politicians, scientists and members from
NGOs shared
their knowledge so as to identify the key drivers to reach a zero
plastics
waste society.
From the start, IdentiPlast
raised key issues like contributions from the plastics industry to
circular
economy or measures to stop plastics waste ending up in landfills. In
this
context, Prof Dr Helmut Maurer from the European Commission (DG
Environment)
pointed out that a measured approach is needed with "a legislation that
effectively triggers investments into green economy and creates jobs?,
to
ensure that sustainability and economic growth can go hand in hand. In
the
first, lively panel discussions, participants pointed out that the need
for
consistent implementing and the effective enforcement of the waste law
is
key to close the circle towards a sustainable
economy.
On day two (30 April),
IdentiPlast
2015 continued to showcase and discuss "best practices? in the
management of plastics waste and latest cutting-edge advances in
sorting,
recycling and recovery technologies for plastics.
