Deputy Managing Director, EAA - Environment Agency Austria
Karl Kienzl has a PhD
in natural sciences studiing Ecology, Zoology and Psychology at the Institutes of Zoology and at the
Institute of Psychology at the University of Vienna in Austria.
Between 1983 and 1985 he
worked as a researcher at the Institute of Environment Hygiene of the Medical
Faculty, at the Institute of Zoology at the University of Vienna. He joined the
Environment Agency Austria (Umweltbundesamt GmbH) in 1989 and is its Deputy
Managing Director since 2002. In 1994 Karl Kienzl was posted to the European
Commission’s DG Environment in Brussels as EFTA-Civil Servant at the Department
of Biotechnolgy. Karl Kienzl acts as Environment Adviser to the Austrian
Parliament and is also a Board Member of BIOS-Science Austria. In addition to
this, he is a member of Bioeconomy Austria, the Austrian European Forum on Research and the Forum of
Scientists for Environment Protection.
