Maurits van Tol

Senior Vice President Innovation and Technology, Borealis Group, Austria

Maurits van Tol is Senior Vice President Innovation & Technology and joined Borealis in 2012 after spending about 19 years in the chemical industry with DSM, holding various international managerial roles. He has a broad experience in senior leadership positions in R&D and Innovation, in marketing as well as business development and business management. He served a.o. as VP bio-based chemicals and materials, VP for R&D, Innovation, Business Development, IPR and Licensing. He was also the Global Marketing Director for DSM’s rubber business, and Business Manager for its Oil Additives business. At that time he also served as President of the European Synthetic Rubber Association and was active in the Executive Board of the International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers.

Maurits van Tol graduated in Chemistry at Leiden University in the Netherlands, spending a year at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Leiden University, a part of that work having been executed at UC Berkeley, USA. He holds 18 patents to his name and has published over 30 reviewed scientific articles. His research was amongst others honoured by the Royal Dutch Chemical Society.
