Carl Van Camp is born in Antwerp in 1952 and obtained a MS and a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Ghent, Belgium.
He started his career as Scientific co-worker at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering in the Laboratory of Petrochemistry - University of Ghent under the supervision of Prof. G. Froment.
In March 1983, he joined Petrofina where he held various functions in Manufacturing at Petrofina’s plants in Antwerp. After working as Plant Manager Polyethylene he became General Manager Operations & Logistics Polyethylene Europe in 1995. In 1997, he is transferred to the Brussels’ office to take over as General Manager Marketing & Sales and Business Team Leader Polyethylene Europe.
After the merger between Petrofina, Total and Elf, he is appointed President of the Global Polyethylene Division in 1999, a role he held for 2 years.
In 2001, he became Senior Vice President Global Base Chemicals Division of Total. In October 2007, he takes the position of Senior Vice President Polyolefins and in January 2012, he is Senior Vice President Polymers, responsible for the worldwide Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Polystyrene businesses.
Carl Van Camp was also President of the Association of Petrochemicals Producers in Europe (2005-2007), member of the Executive Committee of the Fédération des Entreprises de Belgique (2006-2009) and President of essenscia (2006-2009).
He is member of the Board and Executive Committee of CEFIC.
He is member of the Steering Board of PlasticsEurope - Vice President.
He is Chairman of CEFIC’s Sustainability Strategy Group.
