Executive Director, PlasticsEurope
Dr Wilfried Haensel was appointed Executive Director of PlasticsEurope in 2007.
He was born 1953 in Holzminden, Germany. A German national, he graduated from the University of Giessen in Germany in 1980 holding a PhD in Economics and Business Administration. Until 1984 he remained at Giessen University working as an Assistant Professor in Economics.
Haensel joined BASF in 1984, starting his career in a programme for future leaders. He held various management positions in agrochemicals, finance and plastics, rising from Director to Group Vice President with postings in both Europe and Asia. In 2007, he retired from BASF after 23 years to head the pan-European association PlasticsEurope as Executive Director.
He sits on a number of Boards, is married and has one daughter.
