Graduate in law form Wurzburg University 1981. PhD in comparative employment law from Trier University, 1990.
He worked for several years as advocate for civil law and public planning law, inter alia with Pünder, Volhard, Weber & Axster in Frankfurt. He obtained different tenures as professor and presently holds a chair for European Union law and international commercial law at Georg-Simon-Ohm University of applied sciences in Nuremberg.
He joined DG Employment as principal lawyer in 2002 and works since 2006 in the same function in DG Environment unit C2 (waste Management). His horizontal responsibilities cover in particular coherence of European waste legislation, strategic approaches to tackling plastic waste as well as the Basel Convention and implementation of waste legislation in general. Prof Maurer has been a speaker in many international conferences and he is author of a number of publications, mainly in the field of labour law.
